Rosehips (Rosa canina)
Crushed Rose Hips | Rosa canina
Bright, tangy and full of hedgerow character, rose hips are the colourful fruits that follow the flowering of wild roses. Long gathered in British countryside traditions, they became particularly well known during the Second World War, when rose hip syrup was promoted as a source of vitamin C.
These dried, crushed rose hip shells have a pleasantly tart, fruity character and make a wonderful addition to traditional herbal and fruit infusions.
Ways to use: Herbal tea infusions, fruit blends, thoroughly strained decoctions, syrups and traditional preserves.
Our botanicals: Carefully selected from a specialist botanical supplier and hand-packed in small batches by Hearthwise Herbals.
Traditional correspondences: Venus · Taurus · Water (provisional symbolic associations)
Energetics: Cooling · Drying (provisional)
Cautions: Strain preparations carefully to remove any fine hairs or seed fragments, which can cause irritation. Avoid if allergic to rose hips.
